Overview
Blackwater North State School is a co-educational facility. It is one of two primary schools in the township of Blackwater. It was originally opened in 1979 with 147 students and as at February 2006 had 385 students in year 1-7 and 75 in preschool. The school comprises of 2 Preschool units and 14 classes from years 1 to 7. Five specialist teachers and a well resourced Special Education Unit (SEU) complement the facilities. Blackwater North is a Band 8 school and its Enhanced Option 1 classification. A parents and citizens association with tuckshop and various subcommittees support the school’s fundraising and resourcing ventures.
The social climate of the school incorporates one of a supportive environment. A strong anti-bullying program is promoted with strategies on how to deal with problem occasions. The Recess Rescue program, aside from promoting active lifestyle, is also designed to keep students occupied and reduce the cases of misbehaviour caused from idleness at lunchtime.
Students in year 5-7 are involved in school camps. Aside from the educational content, the program promotes student social awareness and etiquette as well.
